Granutools instruments now integrated into Altair EDEM 2025.1 Calibration Kit

We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Altair, a global leader in computational science and AI, which brings the GranuHeap and the GranuDrum instruments, directly into the EDEM calibration workflow.

Granutools is proud to announce our collaboration with Altair, a global leader in computational science and artificial intelligence, to integrate Granutools’ precision powder characterization instruments into the latest release of Altair® EDEM™ 2025.1.

This partnership brings the GranuHeap and GranuDrum, our industry-standard instruments for static and dynamic powder flow characterization, directly into the EDEM calibration workflow. Users can now automatically run and post-process simulations based on real-world physical measurements, significantly reducing the time and effort required for accurate material model calibration.

Why this matters

With this integration, EDEM users can now:

  • Simulate powder behavior based on real, physical test data from GranuHeap and GranuDrum.
  • Achieve industry-grade calibration for powder flow simulations in sectors like battery manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and advanced materials.
  • Improve accuracy and repeatability using Granutools’ strict initialization protocols and simple, robust instrument geometries.

“This new release is a major step forward for Altair EDEM users with Granutools digital twins. Material calibration is now based on dynamic physical measurements, including environmental conditions like temperature and humidity.”

Filip Francqui, Managing Director, Granutools

About the instruments

GranuHeap: Measures the static angle of repose of a powder heap, offering insights into powder flowability, cohesion, and inter-particle interactions.

GranuDrum: Measures dynamic flow properties such as the dynamic angle of repose and cohesive index, helping users understand powder behavior in motion.

These instruments are now digitally replicated in EDEM, enabling users to simulate and analyze powder behavior with unprecedented realism and efficiency.
