Granutools at Euro PM2026 - October 11-14, 2026
Granutools will be at Euro PM2026 in Budapest, October 11–14, booth F2. Roozbeh Valadian gives two presentations: how powder cohesiveness relates to spreadability through multi-layer analysis, and why the standards used to qualify AM feedstock need to change.
Granutools at Euro PM2026: from measurement to standards
October 11-14, 2026 · HUNGEXPO, Budapest · Booth F2
Granutools will take part in Euro PM2026, the congress and exhibition organised by the European Powder Metallurgy Association. Roozbeh Valadian will give two presentations over the week: the first presenting new experimental work, the second arguing what that kind of work should change about industry standards.
The Link Between Powder Cohesiveness and Spreadability Evaluated Through Multi-layer Analysis
Tuesday, October 13 · 08:30 · Room F7
Session 19 - Powder Characterization
Spreadability governs layer homogeneity, recoating behaviour and ultimately build consistency in powder bed fusion. It is also difficult to measure directly, which is why cohesiveness is often used in its place. This presentation examines that relationship through multi-layer analysis.
The Urge to Develop New Standards for Powder Feedstock in AM
Wednesday, October 14
Industry Corner - PM Forum, Exhibition Hall
Many of the characterization methods still in daily use were developed decades ago, for processes that behave very differently from powder bed fusion. They remain useful, but they were not designed to predict how a powder will spread, layer after layer, inside an AM machine.
Granutools has been working on that gap for years, and standards bodies have followed. The Cohesive Index measured with the GranuDrum contributed to the publication of ISO/ASTM TR 52952:2023 on powder spreadability evaluation for additive manufacturing. The measurement itself now has a dedicated standard of its own: ASTM D8648-25, Standard Test Method for Determining Flowability Using GranuDrum. This session looks at what still needs to follow.
Meet us at Booth F2
Three instruments will be running throughout the week.
- The new GranuDrum: cohesive index and flowing angle measured under dynamic conditions. This is the measurement behind Tuesday's presentation, and the one described in ASTM D8648-25.
- GranuHeap: cohesion and packing behaviour from an automated, reproducible heap, without operator bias.
- GranuFlow: flow rate through a series of calibrated orifices, to see how a material behaves as the outlet narrows.
