Granutools and Matsubo at WCPT10 – World Congress on Particle Technology

Granutools and its distributor Matsubo will participate in WCPT10 – World Congress on Particle Technology, one of the leading international conferences dedicated to particle science and technology, held in Osaka, Japan, from 11 to 15 May.

Throughout the congress, Aurélien Neveu and Filip Francqui will contribute to the scientific program with three oral presentations focused on powder characterization, electrostatic phenomena, battery materials, and additive manufacturing processes. These contributions address key challenges discussed within the WCPT community and illustrate recent methodological developments in powder science.

In parallel with the scientific sessions, Matsubo will host a booth at WCPT10, where participants will be able to discuss Granutools instruments, applications, and local support in Japan, including live exchanges around the GranuPack system.

Scientific presentations by Granutools

Evaluation of powder triboelectric properties: a must have for material optimization

May 12, 15:00–15:15
Room 802 - Session Electrostatic 1 (E1-01)
Aurélien Neveu, Granutools

This presentation addresses the major role of tribocharging during powder handling and processing. It highlights how electrostatic charge buildup contributes to flowability issues, agglomeration, process instabilities, and safety risks. After discussing the complexity of tribocharging mechanisms, the talk introduces advanced characterization approaches based on controlled powder flow and net charge measurement. Several application-driven case studies illustrate how triboelectric characterization can support material selection and process optimization.

Prediction of the spreadability of metal powders: the last developments

May 13, 14:45–15:00
Room 806 – Session Additive Manufacturing 2 (AM2-05)
Aurélien Neveu, Granutools

This contribution focuses on the prediction of powder spreadability in powder-bed additive manufacturing. Building on recent standards and experimental developments, the work explores the relationship between powder cohesiveness and layer quality. A dedicated test bench reproducing industrial recoating conditions is presented, enabling multi-layer analysis and detailed surface characterization. Experimental results are complemented by DEM simulations calibrated using digital twins of powder characterization instruments.

Powder mechanisms behind battery manufacturing and their impact on battery performance

May 14, 10:00–10:30
Room 1004 – Session Battery & Energy 3 (BE3-01)
Filip Francqui, Granutools

This presentation examines powder-related mechanisms involved in dry electrode manufacturing for batteries, with a particular focus on PTFE fibrillation during dry coating. A characterization strategy based on tapped density dynamics is proposed to quantify the level of fibrillation as a function of processing parameters such as time and temperature. Complementary flowability measurements highlight the strong influence of temperature on processability. The results provide insight into the link between powder properties, fibrillation behavior, and electrode manufacturing performance.

WCPT10 represents a major forum for scientific exchange between academic researchers and industrial experts in particle technology. Granutools is pleased to contribute to this dialogue through its scientific presentations and to be represented on-site by its trusted distribution partner Matsubo.
