About Particles 2025

Organized by ECCOMAS and IACM, the event brings together experts in numerical simulation techniques such as DEM, PFEM, SPH, MPM, MPS, and LBM, with applications ranging from fluid dynamics to additive manufacturing.

Presentation: Spreadability of Metal Powders: Combining Powder Characterization and DEM Simulations

  • Presenter: Aurélien Neveu, Head of Laboratory and Applications, Granutools
  • Session: IS21 – Particle-Based Simulations in Additive Manufacturing
  • Date & TimeTuesday, October 21, 2025 | 12:00 – 13:00

Aurélien Neveu will present a hybrid methodology for evaluating powder spreadability in powder bed-based additive manufacturing. The approach combines experimental data from GranuDrum, Granutools’ rotating drum rheometer, with Discrete Element Method (DEM) simulations. By calibrating DEM models using real-world powder characterization, the study investigates how cohesive strength, particle size, and recoater speed influence layer formation. The results confirm the strong correlation between the Cohesive Index and powder performance, supporting predictive modeling for AM process optimization.
